Lavender is a many-branched, somewhat woody perennial plant growing 1 ½ to 3 feet tall. It is considered a sub-shrub -- not an herbaceous perennial.
Lavender benefits from pruning twice a year. The first pruning is at the very end of dormancy, just as it starts to put out new growth. The spring pruning removes the 4D’s and gives the plant an overall haircut. The second cut is in the summer, when the flowers start to fade.
